The people behind JB&A have a wealth of experience in lobbying, grant writing, corporate histories and media relations.

 

Jim Bennett, former four time secretary of state, has over 35 years in state government including 15 in the Alabama Legislature, both in the House and Senate. He is also a former member of the cabinet of two governors as state labor director. He currently serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Jacksonville State University and in 2000 was president of the National Association of Secretaries of State. During the 1960s, he was an award-winning reporter for the Birmingham Post-Herald. Mr. Bennett is also an adjunct political science instructor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he teaches state and local government.

 

Karen R. Utz is Curator and Historian of Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham. She is also an adjunct history instructor at the University of Alabama atBirmingham where she teaches undergraduate courses pertaining to southern industry, America in the 1960s, and 20th century American history. Ms. Utz has served on various committees including the Southeastern Museum Conference, Society for the History of Technology, Teaching American History, the Alabama Museum Association, Alabama Humanities Foundation (Roads Scholar), Alabama Academy of Sciences, and the American Association of Museums.
